The family of an individual whose body was found in the North West have urged social media users to stop posting and speculating on the death of their loved one.
This, after the police found a body - believed to be a gay activist, according to numerous social media posts - which was burnt beyond recognition inside the boot of a car at an Ikageng soccer field in Klipgat on Thursday morning.
In a statement purportedly written by one of the family members, they urged those posting and speculating to refrain from such.
The statement from the family confirms that the vehicle, belonging to their loved one, was found by the police on Thursday morning.
The statement adds that family and South African Police Services (SAPS) and close friends have not declared the identity of the victim found.
Meanwhile, police spokesperson, Adele Myburgh, told OFM News that police in Klipgat are investigating a case of murder.
“The body was burnt beyond recognition, and at this stage has yet to be identified. The assistance of DNA testing will be used to assist in identifying this person,” she added.
She said those with information that could help the investigation should contact Warrant Officer Thabo Sekgorwana, at 082 520 1588.
