NC Education expresses condolences following learner's death─── 15:49 Mon, 21 Jun 2021
A Grade 3 learner in the Northern Cape has tragically passed away Monday morning after he was hit by a taxi.
In a statement, the Northern Cape Department of Education conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the learners' family and has decided to temporarily close the Bontleng Primary School in Pampierstad where the learner attended.
The provincial spokesperson for Education, Geoffrey van der Merwe, says the Department’s Employee Support Services will visit the school on Tuesday to provide counselling services to teachers and learners.
“The untimely death of the learner has shocked the Department. Our district office is awaiting a detailed report on what exactly transpired and how the incident occurred,” Van der Merwe says.
Currently, the learner's identity is being withheld until all family members have been informed.
