FS metro's MMC stands trial for assault | News Article

The assault trail against the Mangaung Metro Municipality's Mayoral Member Committee (MMC) for Transport, Patrick Monyakoane, has commenced at the Thaba Nchu Regional Court in the Free State.

Monyakoane stands accused of assaulting former ANC Member, Nkahiseng Sefume, in 2012 in Moroka in Selosesha. The National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping, tells OFM News that the state has called witnesses and more are expected to testify on Tuesday during the continuation of the trial.

Meanwhile, police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, tells OFM News that Sefume was allegedly slapped twice on her right cheek by the accused.

Makhele adds that "it was on 4 February 2012 in the afternoon when the 50-year-old victim and four other women were driving to her parental home in Moroka location, Selosesha".

They were returning home after a planned meeting did not materialise, and upon arriving at her home, Sefume parked her vehicle. "Shortly afterwards, her (Sefume) parents, who were outside, noticed a different group of people, including Monyakoane, coming towards them. Her four female passengers went into the house and the victim stayed inside her vehicle," Makhele adds.

"After assaulting Sefume, Monyakoane allegedly took the key from the ignition. Police were summoned to the scene and later a case of assault common was opened for investigation. At this stage, they are cross-examining witnesses," he adds.
