Youth to picket against FS municipality─── 09:23 Tue, 22 Jun 2021
Various political organisations have launched a picket scheduled for the 24th of June 2021 at the Ngwathe Municipality Head Office in Parys, Free State.
The coordinator of the event, Edgar Legoale, says the purpose of the picket is not only to be peaceful, but to hand over a memorandum to the Speaker of the Ngwhathe Municipality, Nneheng Mopedi, and the Ngwhathe Municipal Mayor, Joey Mochela, highlighting various demands.
Legoale says the picket is organised under the banner “Ngwathe Concerned Youth”, supported by various political youth organisations. One of the purposes of handing over the memorandum is to get the attention of the council to support various issues faced by youth, says Legoale. Deputy coordinator, Stephen Mosotho, tells OFM News that the memorandum consists mostly of youth-orientated demands and highlights service delivery issues as well.
Legoale says their demands include the payment of outstanding student registrations; jobs for the youth; economic opportunities for the youth; the establishment of a rehab centre; sports, arts and culture opportunities; a youth policy; and the establishment of a youth directorate.
Political youth parties, such as the South African Students Congress (Sasco), the Congress of South African Students (Cosas), South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) and various non-profit youth organisations will be present.
