NC former MM, directors in court over R79.9m's fraud allegations | News Article

A 62-year-old former municipal manager (MM) at the Springbok-based Nam Khoi municipality in the Northern Cape and two company directors are in trouble with the law after an alleged fraud case of R79.9 million.

The Hawks’ provincial spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, says the former (MM) Nevie Aubrey Baartman, two directors-Maralise Lunnette Cloete (38) and Zihaadt Ismial Cloete (41) were served with summons this month by the Hawks to appear in court.

She says it’s alleged the two directors of a construction company, that received a tender from the municipality in 2013, allegedly did not meet the requirements and the procurement process was allegedly flouted. Mnisi says the matter was reported to the Hawks and the suspects face charges of fraud, along with a juristic person which in this case is the company that was set to render paving stones and curbs for three years. The trio is expected to appear in court on Monday 20 September 2021.

“They were served with a summons by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team on Wednesday 2 June 2021, compelling them to appear before the court. This follows an advertised tender to render paving stones and curbs for three years,” she adds.
