Speaking to OFM News about the ongoing week-long oversight visits to the different regions, Klaaste expressed concern over the state of municipalities and their ability to provide services to residents. She highlighted the province is largely rural with residents in much need of adequate municipal services. Following the visit to the Upington Industrial Park and Namakwa Special Economic Zone on Tuesday, Klaaste confirmed these projects are amongst the few that need to transform the lives of communities and address questions relating to the high unemployment faced in the province.

OFM News on Monday reported on how the Provincial Legislature expressed concern at the state of the Joe Morolong Municipality and how it continues to incur high unauthorised expenditure, despite battling with the lack of revenue collection.

Klaaste said the municipality needs to do more to address service delivery issues and improve their financial health.
