Infectious disease expert weighs in on FS vaccinations─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 13:03 Thu, 24 Jun 2021
"Vaccinations for teachers and all those within the education sector are proceeding well at the Universitas Academic Hospital."
According to Dr Samantha Potgieter, who is an infectious disease expert at the hospital, it is all systems go. Potgieter confirms to OFM News vaccinations against Covid-19 at the hospital have been successful despite the high turnout of teachers and support staff. She says a total of 1 150 people were vaccinated on Wednesday and they are expecting more people to come through. Potgieter says they are of the view that it is extremely important to vaccinate more teachers for the safety and benefit of children.
“The team was exhausted when they went home yesterday, but I think it was worthwhile. I hope we get to vaccinate many more teachers because we think it is very important to vaccinate them for the benefit of our children”.
She confirmed on Thursday there have been fewer people as compared to the previous day, but is certainly expecting to vaccinate many more people who have anything to do with the running of schools.
OFM News has reported that a total of 32 000 people in the education sector in the Free State are expected to be vaccinated within the next 10 to 14 days.
