FS educators, non-teaching staff advised to look after their health─── 11:22 Fri, 25 Jun 2021
The Free State teachers and non-teaching staff have been advised to look after their health following their vaccination rollout that kicked off on Wednesday 23 June 2021.
According to a medical doctor in Bloemfontein, Dr Sello Mokwena, a person may experience pain or discomfort in the shoulder of the arm that they were injected in, or flu, amongst other things, as side effects. This is the case with many vaccinations provided by medical specialists. The severity of the flu depends on the body’s reaction as it can be a first, second or third-degree reaction to the vaccine.
Teachers and non-teaching staff were advised to immediately visit their nearest medical facility if they were to experience any complications after their vaccinations.
According to Mokwena, most teachers are suffering from hypertension, which cannot be ignored. He realised this after screening education staff who were about to take their vaccine jabs and advised them to immediately seek medical attention. “If it’s the very first time that you were informed that you have hypertension, please consult a doctor so that you can get help. The majority of you were at [dangerous] levels, please take care of yourselves,” said Mokwena.
Meanwhile, those who smoke were warned against complications that they may experience in the future, such as the reduction of blood vessels and hypertension if they were to continue smoking.
