A 12-year-old boy is appearing before the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the murder of the 15-year-old Lebohang Malgas.
Free State police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says the crime occurred on Friday evening, shortly after the boys were playing a gambling game at Blok 7 in Kutlwanong township. Makhele says the outcome of the game resulted in a heated argument between the two boys with the 12-year-old going home and allegedly returning with a pocket knife.
“On his return he allegedly pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed Lebohang in the chest. The victim fell and was declared dead at the scene. The deceased is a grade 9 learner whilst the 12-year-old suspect is in grade 6, at separate schools in Kutlwanong,” says Makhele.
The 12-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with murder. He was, however, released back into the custody of a guardian pending his court case.
Word of the incident on social media has attracted much concern and criticism from members of the public. Many are pointing out that our society is getting more violent with each passing day and ultimately it impacts the most vulnerable members of society.
