FS on track with teachers’ vaccines - Motshekga─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 12:19 Mon, 28 Jun 2021
Free State Education Department confirms it has vaccinated almost 50% of their 32 000 target for the teachers’ inoculation programme.
Briefing the media alongside Minister Angie Motshekga and Health MEC Montseng Tsiu, Education MEC Tate Makgoe said the vaccination of educators and non-teaching staff continues in all five districts. He said no major hiccups have been reported at any of the 29 vaccination sites and they are pleased with the number of personnel showing up to get the jab. Makgoe said at this stage he is confident they would have vaccinated all the teachers and support staff by the end of this week despite the department having given all provinces until July 8 to vaccinate all the people in the education sector.
Motshekga has meanwhile highlighted that all provinces will use Thursday and Friday to “ramp up” the vaccination process as schools are expected to close on Wednesday as announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa last night.
Ramaphosa on Sunday announced that the country will now be placed under lockdown alert level 4 to curb the spread of the third wave of the Covid-19. He announced schools’ winter holidays will, as a result, be brought forward and close this week.
Motshekga said she is confident the Free State will vaccinate all its teachers and support staff without any glitches and that she is pleased with how teachers from both the public and private sectors have been coming forward in their numbers.
