NW mother in court for killing baby─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 08:00 Thu, 01 Jul 2021

A 25-year-old North West mother accused of killing her own baby is expected to appear in the Ga-rankuwa Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
Mimi Mokoena will face charges of murder, perjury and obstructing the ends of justice.
Police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, said Mokoena had initially opened a kidnapping case and told the police that two armed unknown men forcefully gained entrance into her shack on June 26, demanding to see her boyfriend, and then left with the baby once she told them her boyfriend was not home.
Mokgwabone says following intensive investigation by the police, it was later discovered that the mother had lied and she then admitted to killing her baby.
He says she was then arrested and charged with murder, perjury and defeating the ends of justice.
Mokgwabone says the body of the one-month-old baby was found in the river banks by a passer-by on Sunday, June 27, a day after the mother opened a case.
