NW Health MEC advises students to do nursing course─── 13:40 Fri, 02 Jul 2021
The North West Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha, has advised students to study nursing as it is fast becoming an in-demand field as a result of Covid-19.
This comes after a virtual media briefing that was held by the Premier Job Mokgoro in response to the rising cases of Covid-19 within the province.
According to Sambatha, nurses must now deal with Covid-19 emergencies, rather than dealing with patients in their wards. He said that the Health Department has taken some of the professional nurses to train them to vaccinate, resulting in a gap being created in various wards that the nurses should be working in. The demand in staff comes as a result of an increase in vaccination programmes and an increase in Covid-19 cases in the province.
Sambatha has stated that they are working with the Department of Treasury in the province, and the national Health Department to curb the increasing gap that is being created by the vaccination programme, the response in facilities, and increasing number of infections.
