Suspect due in Welkom court after mother's murder─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:14 Tue, 06 Jul 2021
A 21-year-old man who was arrested by the police after the body of his mother was found buried in a shallow grave at Bronville in Welkom in the Free State will on Tuesday re-appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court.
Fika Gladile is still in custody and has been since his arrest by the police in April 2021.
The case of murder was postponed during his previous appearance for further investigations. Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, previously said in a statement that Fika’s 40-year-old mother Siziwe, who was a former Eastern Cape SAPS Admin Clerk, was reported missing by his brother on 31 March 2021 at about 22:00 and was later discovered by police when they noticed a human toe protruding in the sand as they tried to dig inside the shack.
In the statement, Mbambo said “the members, Sergeants Israel Tshehlana and Matlala Matlala conducted a preliminary investigation by visiting the victim's house. On arrival, they noticed that the window panes were broken and there were bloodstains on the ground next to the house leading to the shack at the back”.
Mbambo said these two sergeants followed the blood trail and saw loose soil in the shack. “Relevant stakeholders were alerted and the body was dug out on the morning of 1 April 2021 at about 10:00. Further investigations were conducted which led to the arrest of the 21-year-old son of the deceased,” she added.
