The Free State police in the small town of Koffiefontein is investigating a case of arson after a building that used to house members of the South African Police Services (SAPS) burned.
Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, tells OFM News that the building was used by SAPS members a few years back and no documents or files were inside the building as alleged by concerned residents in that area.
A resident, who opted to remain anonymous, says documents and files were dumped inside the building and after a fire, some were damaged or destroyed. The local resident says this is concerning to residents as many documents with personal information are not being kept safe and are left to the elements and blown around by the wind.
Meanwhile, Mbambo says “currently the building is unoccupied and there were no official documents inside when the house caught fire - the investigation continues”.
