Central SA hit by cold front - VIDEO | News Article

South Africa is experiencing one of the coldest days of the year with expected maximum temperatures of between 10 and 15 degrees until Thursday.

In the Free State, Bloemfontein had a minimum temperature of 0 and is expecting a maximum temperature of only 10 degrees. Welkom also had a minimum of 0 on Tuesday and is expecting a maximum temperature of 11 degrees, with Bethlehem being very cold with a minimum of -2 and an expected maximum of 8 degrees.

Senior forecaster of the South African Weather Service (SAWS), Jaequeline Modika, says in the Northern Cape province there were also very cold conditions with temperatures below 10 degrees in most parts.

“Upington’s maximum temperature is expected to reach 7 degrees, De Aar 8, and Kimberley 10 degrees Celsius. This is due to an intense cold front which is passing over the central parts of the country and this has caused an influx of extremely cold air over most parts of the interior.

"Snowfall was also recorded over the southern parts of the Northern Cape, where Sutherland has already confirmed reports of snow that occurred there yesterday overnight and also early this morning,” Modika says.

From Thursday onwards some recovery will take place with temperatures in certain parts of Central SA, Modika says.
