NC man convicted after raping pregnant stepsister─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:50 Wed, 14 Jul 2021
A 27-year-old Northern Cape man has been handed a 10-year jail sentence at the Kuruman Regional Court. The 27-year-old Tshenelo Moagi was convicted of raping his stepsister five years ago.
Police spokesperson, Dimakatso Mooi, in a statement says Moagi was sentenced after being nabbed in 2016. Moagi raped his seven-months pregnant stepsister at their home in Bankhara and further punched her when the victim tried to fight him off. Mooi says the convict has been incarcerated ever since his arrest and his name was recorded in the Sexual Offences Register for offenders.
"The provincial head for FCS in the Northern Cape, Brigadier Nicky Mills, welcomed the 10-year sentence handed down to Moagi," Dimakatso says.
Mooi adds that the latter was arrested on 5 April 2016 and with bail successfully opposed, he remained behind bars until he was found guilty.
"Kuruman FCS Commander, Captain Caren Nel, commended Warrant Officer Keitumetse Semetsa for her commitment and thorough investigation that ensured the perpetrator serves time for this heinous crime," she further adds.
