NW Cogta MEC warns businesses of a scam─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:19 Thu, 15 Jul 2021
The North West Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (Coghsta) has been hit by a scam.
MEC Mmoloki Cwaile has cautioned the community and people doing business with the departments against the alleged scam. He says the alleged fraudsters are going around soliciting money in forms of donations on behalf of him. MEC Cwaile said these fraudsters would even go to the extent of claiming to know the MEC and that they are in constant contact with him.
“I want to warn everyone against these shenanigans and appeal to anyone who come across such fraudsters, not to fall for this scam,” he adds.
Cwaile has called on everybody who has fallen for it, to report the matter to the nearest police station.
"A similar incident occurred in the past where people where impersonating the Head of the Department of Human Settlements, Adv. Neo Sephoti, and solicited money from service providers by promising them tenders for housing projects," Cwaile further adds.
In May 2021, OFM News reported that the Provincial Treasury cautioned municipalities and residents in the province against a tender fraud scam.
