NW teen girl gang-raped─── LUCKY NKUYANE 14:43 Mon, 19 Jul 2021
A 15-year-old teenage girl is recovering from a sexual assault ordeal after she was gang-raped by unknown suspects in Jouberton near Klerksdorp in the North West.
According to police spokesperson, Amanda Funani, one suspect aged 33 years, was arrested by the police whilst the police are still on a manhunt for two other suspects who are still at large.
She says it's alleged that the 15-year-old victim girl was gang-raped by the suspects after she boarded a local meter taxi known as Tambai in the local district. The suspects are alleged to have dumped the girl at a railway line after the alleged crime and the 33-year-old suspect has already appeared at the Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court and a case of kidnapping, robbery and three counts of rape was opened.
Funani says according to the information the girl was threatened with a knife by one assailant when questioning the unfamiliar route the driver had taken.
She says "after the incident, the minor was taken to Extension 10 where she was left near a railway line. She managed to go home and was taken to hospital for medical examination".
"On Thursday, 14 July 2021, the minor took her uncle and the police to the house where the incident occurred and the Tambai taxi drivers assisted police in identifying the driver of the Tambai that was used during the rape.
"According to information at our disposal, the minor was from her friend’s place in Extension 24, going home in Extension 10. She allegedly boarded a Tambai taxi of which the driver went to a certain house at Extension 22, where he collected two balaclava-wearing males.
"It is alleged that the driver took a direction that was unfamiliar to the minor. The latter allegedly questioned the driver about the new direction, but one of the males threatened to stab her with a knife and told her to keep quiet," Funani adds.
"Police request anyone who may have information regarding the whereabouts of the other two suspects to contact the Investigating Officer, Sergeant Kenneth Ntshekane on 078-407-6351 or call South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Stop number: 086-0010-111," Funani further adds.
