NW ANC IPC to meet following Tswaing drama | News Article

The political infighting and violence which rocked the troubled Delareyville-based Tswaing Local Municipality in the North West will be at the fore when the ANC Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) sits soon.

According to ANC IPC spokesperson, Kenny Morolong, the situation has degenerated into chaos with the municipality operating with two municipal managers and two mayors. The scheduled meeting comes after an employee was attacked by security guards on Thursday and a 2019 report which then suggested immediate intervention at this municipality.

Morolong says as a consequence of ongoing internal squabbles in the municipal council, the municipality has become totally dysfunctional in its operations and governance systems.

The IPC had at the time expressed concern over the internal squabbles within the municipal council and ANC caucus which had become thorny and warranted appropriate intervention by the Provincial Government and the ANC as a majority party in the council. Tswaing Local Municipality has effectively collapsed and cannot fulfill its executive obligations in terms of the Constitution of the Republic. The municipality is unable to provide basic services and meet its financial obligations.

Consequently, the residents of Tswaing bear the brunt of the dysfunctionality of their municipality,” he adds. Morolong says they are calling on both the provincial and national governments to expeditiously intervene in the municipality in accordance with the Constitution. “We implore on these two spheres of government to take appropriate steps as directed by the Constitution,” he further adds.
