Suspect in Orkney to appear in court following illegal possession of firearm─── 15:00 Thu, 29 Jul 2021
The case against a 32-year-old suspect is set to take course on 30 July 2021 in the Orkney Magistrate’s Court in North West. The suspect's appearance follows his arrest in Kanana for the illegal possession of a pistol firearm and ammunition.
North West Police spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, further says that in a separate case, 34-year-old Rabuti Pule was convicted and sentenced by the Klerksdorp Regional Court for an armed robbery that took place in March 2019 in Klerksdorp.
Rikhotso says Pule was linked to an incident where a Fidelity security guard was allegedly ambushed by two men after he had collected money from a Choppies grocery store.
“Pule allegedly wrestled with him and stripped him of the money box then disarmed him and fled the scene. The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team arrested the accused in February 2021 and charged him with robbery with aggravating circumstances. He was remanded in custody until he was convicted and sentenced to eight years imprisonment of which four were suspended for five years. He will therefore serve an effective four years imprisonment,” says Rikhotso. Additionally, he was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
