South Africa's youngest Olympian, Kimberley-based Boipelo Awuah, has put the Northern Cape province on the international map.

Finance, Economic Development and Tourism MEC, Abraham Vosloo, says the 15-year-old star skateboarder has done well, although she had to withdraw from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Vosloo told OFM News they are extremely proud of Awuah. He said he is hopeful that she will recover from her pelvic fracture and continue with her love for the sport. Vosloo was speaking to OFM News at the Kimberley Airport where the Olympian was welcomed by her school peers and community. The teen had to make an early return to Kimberley after her injury.

Vosloo says the province nonetheless takes pride in her and will continue striving to ensure that the province is positioned first in terms of extreme sports and tourism attractions.
