The police in the Free State have opened a case of inquest after a three-year-old child fell to his death at a mall in Bloemfontein.
According to police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, a family of four from Bergman Square near Bloemfontein visited a mall on Sunday.
Around 14:30 in the afternoon they headed towards parking area M3, where the father noticed the child was missing.
He says they looked for the boy, and met a security officer who informed them that their child had fallen to the ground.
Makhele in a statement says the family then rushed to the spot where the child's lifeless body was lying.
"Park Road police and paramedics were called and the child was declared dead on the scene," he added.
Meanwhile, the incident has sent out shock waves on social media, with Twitter and Facebook users sending their messages of condolences to the family.
