NW #Covid19 PPE investigative report expected─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 10:04 Tue, 03 Aug 2021
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) confirms investigations into irregular tenders relating to personal protective equipment (PPE) in the North West will soon be finalised.
The unit says investigations can be expected to be completed by the end of the month.
Over 100 PPE procurement deals awarded by the North West Provincial Government to the value of R57 million are under investigation.
OFM News previously reported that SIU Head, Andy Mothibi, confirmed the troubled JB Marks Local Municipality and the Ratlou Local Municipality in the North West are amongst state institutions that have engaged in fraud, corruption, and financial misconduct.
Releasing an investigative report into Covid-19 PPE tenders in February, Mothibi confirmed an administrator and a middle manager at these municipalities were under investigation for fraud relating to these irregular tender processes. The completion of investigations into the province will also come just a month after SIU investigators raided the Ratlou Local Municipality offices to search and seize evidence relating to PPE procurement at the municipality.
Mothibi, highlighted that corruption has a negative impact on the government’s ability to deliver basic services to citizens and they will stop at nothing to ensure accountability.
