Free State police discovered two bodies in the Vaal Dam at Oranjeville after a car had crashed against a steel barrier on Tuesday 10 August 2021.
Police spokesperson Motantsi Makhele said that police received a complaint of a motor vehicle that was involved in an accident at Prinsloo Magrietta Bridge, Oranjeville, on Monday 9 August 2021. He said allegations suggested that the motor vehicle crashed into the steel barriers of the bridge and fell into the deep water. Makhele further said that the police divers discovered two bodies that were identified by their next of kin as Lucky Hlapo and Thugela Mguni, aged 20 and 34 respectively.
He said that police divers are still continuing their search for the outstanding male, who allegedly also drowned, after they had discovered two bodies on Tuesday.
Makhele said the police divers’ location of the submerged motor vehicle was spotted and towing services personnel have been called in to the scene to retrieve the motor vehicle. Police are investigating a case of homicide.
