#CoronavirusFS: Isolation centre in spotlight─── LUCKY NKUYANE 12:27 Thu, 12 Aug 2021
A Covid-19 isolation centre of the government in Bloemfontein in the Free State has found itself in the spotlight following complaints from patients about its operations.
An anonymous source, who was a patient at the centre a few weeks ago, has told OFM News that the centre is not been run properly and this has the potential to put patients’ lives at risk during the recovering period. The source has revealed that on the night she arrived at the centre in July 2021, she found a cold bed without blankets and was further left to fend for herself and to make plans to acquire medication for the isolation period.
The source further revealed that part of their meals in the morning and the afternoon included one boiled egg, four triangles of sandwiches and sometimes a cup of mealie meal and milk. The Provincial Department of Health is yet to comment on OFM News' list of questions.
It's alleged that patients at this centre have to cook for themselves in their rooms.
Meanwhile, the Free State province has over 130,000 confirmed cases and over 112,700 recoveries, which translate to a recovery rate of over 80%.
According to another report of the Provincial Department of Health, over 5,750 deaths have been reported in the province to date and the highest case fatality rate was reported in the Thabo Mofutsanyana District.
