NW premier hands over blankets─── 12:33 Sat, 14 Aug 2021
The North West Premier, Job Mokgoro, donated blankets this week to elderly women at the Bapong Lutheran church near Brits in the North West.
Partnering with the National Lotteries commission, Mokgoro also handed over a cheque of R500 000 to the Mmakarabelo Foundation, which focuses on the elderly, and the Thusano Prevention Programme, which focuses on youth, the disabled and women.
Each non-profit organisation received R250 000 to feed the poor through food parcels during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Spokesperson in the Office of the Premier, Brian Setswambung, says the blankets were donated by employees from the National Lotteries commission who individually made contributions as part of Mandela Month and Women’s Month.
“It was an extremely successful donation. The level of excitement was so high among the elderly people who received these blankets. Whether we like it or not, winter is still with us and indeed they are needy,” Setswambung says.
“We are solely committed to the interests of the elderly in our society, and it is a commitment we shall never deviate from,” says Mokgoro.
Setswambung says both non-profit organisations are in the same community.
“These donations will assist the two foundations to push their programmes, which are community-driven, and to benefit the community,” Setswambung adds.
