5th FS school rocked by #Covid19─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:06 Sat, 21 Aug 2021
Another school in the Free State has been rocked by positive Covid-19 cases.
This comes after four schools including Dr Blok, Heide Primary, Grey College and Willem Postma had all been affected by the virus after learners tested positive for Covid-19.
The Department of Education's spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, confirms to OFM News that Winburg Combined School in the Masilonyana Local Municipality is the latest to register positive Covid-19 cases.
OFM News understand that six matriculants at this school are in quarantine after testing positive for the virus.
Ndaba says the school had followed the necessary health protocols of tracing close contacts and they have been identified.
He adds that the Health Department had assisted in the process and the situation is now being monitored.
OFM News' Kekeletso Mosebetsi previously reported that Ndaba had also confirmed that a total of 39 learners - 28 learners of Dr Blok and 11 learners of Heide Primary, who share a hostel, tested positive. In his report, he indicated that five learners do not reside in the hostel.
The Free State and Northern Cape continue to be negatively impacted by the Delta variant in schools with more learners now testing positive for the virus. This means that more schools are continuing to close.
