Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says a 32-year-old female officer stationed at Petsana in Reitz was found murdered on Saturday.

Makhele says the boyfriend of the deceased has since been arrested and is expected to appear before the Reitz Magistrate’s Court on Monday 23 August for murder.

He adds the body of the constable was found lying near the Reitz swimming pool. The police officer is suspected to have been strangled to death.

"It is alleged that the deceased called her colleagues in the early hours of 21 August 2021, at about 02:15, seeking assistance, alleging that her boyfriend was assaulting her. The two police constables who were off duty, with the Sergeant who was on duty at the time, went to search for her. Both the deceased and the suspect were in a relationship but not staying together," he adds.

Makhele further says that the boyfriend was traced and arrested in Petsana, Reitz.

A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The name of the deceased will only be released once the family has been notified," Makhele further adds.

Her murder comes two months after a 39-year-old female court orderly was found dead in her house in Rocklands on 7 June with bullet wounds to her head. Her husband’s service pistol was found next to her body.

Meanwhile, the Provincial police commissioner, Baile Motswenyane, has expressed shock at the murder of the female officer. She has sent her condolences to the family and colleagues.
