Four expected in NW court for illegal mining─── 08:20 Fri, 27 Aug 2021
Four suspects are expected to appear before the Mogwase Magistrate's Court in North West on Friday 27 August 2021.
The four unnamed suspects were arrested on Wednesday for illegal mining of chrome, worth an estimated R1 million at a mine near Sun City. According to captain Tlangelani Rikhotso from North West SAPS, a disciplinary team, consisting of the Hawks, Klerksdorp Illegal Mining Task Team, SAPS Airwing, and Bidvest Protea Coin, followed up on information that was provided to them and executed an operation at the mine.
He said on their arrival, they found five trucks that were loaded with stolen chrome, two shovels and three other vehicles that supply diesel to ground moving equipment. All equipment were subsequently seized for further investigation.
North West Provincial Head of the Hawks, Patrick Mbotho, applauded the good work that was done by law enforcement agencies.
