#Election2021: ANC sets record straight─── LUCKY NKUYANE 07:24 Mon, 30 Aug 2021
The ANC in the Free State and Northern Cape have cleared the air over rife speculations that they failed to submit ward candidates with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on time.
The Northern Cape ANC spokesperson, Tshepo Louw, tells OFM News that all names of ANC ward candidates were submitted on time.
But, it was not all smooth sailing in the Free State, as the names of some of its candidates were missing from the IEC system. This is according to the ANC's Interim Provincial Committee Spokesperson, Oupa Khoabane. He says 52 candidates in the Lejweleputswa and Thabo Mofutsanyana Municipalities were affected after their names and identity numbers were not captured correctly.
Khoabane says that despite this, names of ANC candidates, including those in Mangaung, were indeed submitted on time.
"The names that were missing were as a result of the IEC system not capturing them, some mainly had incorrect identity numbers," Khoabane adds.
The ANC Deputy Secretary-General, Jessie Duarte, earlier announced that the ANC was contemplating approaching the electoral court to force the IEC to open another line of registration.
She said the party want to register its candidates to contest municipal elections in all municipal councils in the country.
This was after the IEC turned down some of their candidates for filing their applications late. Duarte, in a statement, previously confirmed that 35 municipalities were affected.
