University pleas for information after fatal hit and run─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:19 Thu, 16 Sep 2021
The University of the Free State (UFS) has made a compassionate plea to anyone with information about the fatal hit and run which claimed the life of a fourth-year student, to come forward.
The university's spokesperson, Lacea Loader, tells OFM News that no one has been arrested yet for the incident which took place in April 2021 outside the main gate of the university's campus in Nelson Mandela Drive.
According to an earlier report by the police, the 23-year-old Litemba Mpambani, who was a BA Fine Arts student, was declared dead on the scene after she was hit by a car that drove off after the incident. OFM News previously reported that the police have identified a model and determined the colour of a sedan that claimed the life of a student from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape.
Mpambani's post mortem showed that she passed on after she suffered an injury to the top left side of her head and she was declared dead on the scene by paramedics at 22:10 pm, which is 10 minutes after the estimated time of the fatal accident in April.
Loader further adds that the university management has been in touch with the Mpambani family and fully supports their quest for justice in this tragic hit-and-run accident.
She says not only did the family lose a daughter, but the university also lost a promising and talented student who was loved among her friends, fellow students, and lecturers.
"The case is still being investigated by the South African Police Service (SAPS). Anyone who has information in respect of the incident or who saw something that could possibly be linked to the incident can call Sergeant Thabo Litsoane on 079 606 7820. Alternatively, 0860 010111 can be called or information can be reported on the MySAPS App. Information can also be sent to the UFS at investigation@ufs.ac.za, from where it will be communicated to the investigating officer at SAPS," Loader adds.
