The Hawks spokesperson in the Northern Cape, Philani Nkwalase, says the officers, 37 and 31 year olds, are facing charges of armed robbery, attempted murder and kidnapping. He says that the duo were implicated in a syndicate that allegedly robbed motorists at gunpoint along the N14 near Kuruman in 2020. They robbed cash, cellphones and other valuables.

“The sergeant and constable were arrested earlier this morning by the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team, with the assistance of the Tactical Response Team and Crime Intelligence. The matter was referred to the Hawks in August 2020, after complaints were reported at the local police station. The Hawks probe revealed that the alleged perpetrators were members of the South African Police Services,” said Nkwalase.

During the arrests, a white Volkswagen Polo, allegedly used in the commission of the crime, was confiscated
