Head of the Free State ANC Interim Structure, Mxolisi Dukwana, has been sworn in as a new member of the Free State Legislature.

This, following the resignation of Mojalefa Buti. Legislature Spokesperson, Life Mokone, confirms to OFM News Dukwana was sworn in by Speaker Zanele Sifuba late on Tuesday.

Dukwana, a known opponent of former ANC Secretary-General and former Free State Premier Ace Magashule, is expected to see the Free State to a provincial conference in his capacity as the head of the interim structure.

Following his testimony at the State Capture Commission, he has positioned himself as someone opposed to corruption and any form of maladministration.

This, despite allegations that he might have benefitted from the controversial CR17 fund, which saw President Cyril Ramaphosa rise to power.

It is unclear whether Dukwana will soon take up position in the Executive Council. Meanwhile, Mokone says they welcome Dukwana to the Free State Legislature.

“We, as the Free State Legislature, welcome honourable Dukwana to the Free State Legislature. Honourable Dukwana has been a Speaker before, and has also served in the executive council as an MEC for Economic Development, Environmental Affairs, and Tourism. We wish honourable Dukwana all the best in his new endeavour, and hope his involvement in the Legislature will help us to increase our ability to play an oversight role over the executive” added Mokone.
