The former Speaker of the Klerksdorp based Matlosana Local Municipality in North West was officially elected as the new executive mayor of the municipality today.
Rose Thabanchu previously served as the Speaker of the municipality in the 2009 period when China Dodovu served as the mayor.
She replaces former mayor, Maetu Kgaile, who passed away due to Covid-19 in July 2021.
The ANC’s Interim Provincial Committee’s coordinator, Hlomane Chauke, announced Thabanchu as the overall successful candidate after vigorous interviews by the ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
Thabanchu contested the position with youth league leader Stella Mondale and Maria Ramphele.
