BFN resident listed as deceased on home affairs system

BFN resident listed as deceased on home affairs system | News Article

With less than a month to go with this year’s election poll, a Bloemfontein resident is frustrated with his status at home affairs.

The 40-year-old Patric Maliehe says when he was about to register online to vote, the IEC system listed him as deceased.

Maliehe tells OFM News that this then prohibited him from being able to register and practice his right to vote.

For weeks Maliehe says he has been visiting the Home Affairs offices, but nothing has been done to fix the situation. He then opened a case at the human rights commission in Bloemfontein.

OFM News submitted questions to the Department of Home Affairs and is awaiting response.

Maliehe says he had no other choice, but to turn to the Human RightsCommission since he had to travel back and forth to the Home Affairs Department in Bloemfontein.

“My stepson recently passed away, so instead of listing him as deceased, they listed me as deceased as well. I don’t know who is in wrong between the morgue and home affairs, but when questions are asked they blame one another,” says Maliehe.
