FS man to re-appear in court for selling vacant land illegally─── BLAINE JONES 14:52 Mon, 04 Oct 2021
A suspect, who was arrested by the Free State Hawks for allegedly selling vacant land illegally, is expected to re-appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Regional Court on Thursday.
The provincial Hawks spokesperson, Christopher Singo, says the suspect, the 48-year-old Funtha Motaung, illegaly sold vacant land between July 2020 and March 2021.
Singo says after selling the land, Motaung failed to hand over the documents to the buyers, as promised, which resulted in these buyers losing a total of R590 000. Singo says Motaung was arrested on 1 October 2021 and made his first court appearance on the same day, on charges of fraud. The case was then postponed to Thursday 7 October 2021.
“It is alleged that during the period of July 2020 to March 2021, Motaung sold the land to victims and failed to hand over the land to the victims as promised. It was further discovered that Motaung was not the owner of the land and he was also not authorised to sell that land. As a result, the victims suffered a total loss of more than R590 000,” says Singo.
The matter was then reported to the Hawks for further investigation, which culminated in the arrest of Motaung.
