#MangaungCopChaos: Opposition disgruntled about denied access to workplace─── 10:25 Wed, 06 Oct 2021
As employees and citizens of Bloemfontein are awaiting entrance into the cordoned off Bram Fisher building, opposition councillors are disgruntled about being denied access to their workplace.
The DA's Mokgadi Kganakga tells OFM News that they're disgruntled by the fact that many employees, and possible IEC officials, have been prohibited to enter the building since the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The Mangaung Metro Police allegedly closed off the entrances to the building as they are yet to receive their appointment letters, adds Kganakga. She says the IEC has an increasingly important mandate, which is to facilitate the elections. They are now unable to do that because of the situation at hand.
"The metro is - as it is - very controversial. The city has been issuing memos and mandates to clarify [issues]. The head of the metro police is also very controversial, the MMC is very controversial and now look at what is happening today. This is unfair, it's not right. Where is the mayor? The city manager went in here but we haven't seen any signs of the mayor. All of our rights were not being taken into consideration," adds Kganakga.
"The only thing they care about is their appointment letters, which could have been resolved in a meeting between their bosses and the municipality's bosses," she continues.
Kganakga asserts that the IEC further advertised positions, inviting people who want to work during the elections to submit their CVs at the City Hall. However, access to the City Hall is now being denied from every possible entry point.
She ends off by emphasising the fact that the city is financially unable to provide for the recently launched metro police unit while service delivery is consistently plummeting.
