Sewerage leaking near Vanderbiljpark nursery school─── 16:49 Thu, 07 Oct 2021
A small business owner who operates a nursery school in Vanderbiljpark, says the 58 children in her care are exposed to a health risk, due to a sewage leak next to the school.
OFM News visited the area in CW6-Vanderbiljpark, where some residents claim that sewage has been flowing into their yards as well as a local school since 2017.
Karlien van Jaarsveld tells OFM News that as a result teachers and staff at her nursery school are struggling with sinusitis, chronic asthma, and unbearable headaches.
Van Jaarsveld is worried that she could lose her business, after some parents complained about the overflowing manhole opposite the school's gate.
Emfuleni Local Municipality spokesperson, Makhosonke Sangweni, tells OFM News that he has forwarded Van Jaarsveld’s query to Metsi-a-Lekoa, which unblocks sewerage under the municipality.
