Malema calls on Mabuyane to step down─── 12:06 Mon, 11 Oct 2021
EFF leader Julius Malema has called on Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane to step down, failing which, the ANC must fire him.
Malema made the call during his party’s election campaign in Bloemhof in the North West.
Mabuyane, Public Works MEC Babalo Madikizela and the provincial ANC are implicated in the alleged misappropriation of R1.1 million meant for the memorial service of the late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in 2018.
The Public Protector earlier released a report saying Mabuyane benefited to the tune of R450 000, which was used for renovations of his private home, while a private company owned by Madikizela’s wife received R350 000 through the Mbizana Local Municipality.
The EFF leader has been on an election drive across the North West since Friday. He visited all the province’s four regions engaging with communities and his supporters, who complained about poor service delivery.
When speaking on the sideline with SABC News, the EFF leader did not mince his words and called for the removal of Mabuyane.
“When you support Ramaphosa you got the license to be corrupt and Oscar Mabuyane is such an example. They are going to take that Public Protector report on review because that’s what the court has allowed. They are delaying unnecessarily, there is nothing that will change. We did not need a Public Protector, Cyril got that information. Cyril got that statement, he did nothing about it. Oscar must step down, whether he’s going to review this or not, he must step down. If not the ANC must fire him.”
In Boitumelong township in Bloemhof, residents are concerned about leaders who seek sexual favours in order to employ young women.
