Two suspects, aged 31 and 53, have been arrested following successful investigations that were conducted by the Free State police.
According to the Hawks spokesperson in the Free State, Christopher Singo, the duo was arrested on Tuesday night by South Africa's Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, known as the Hawks, together with Crime Intelligence (CI) and the Tactical Response Team (TRT) in Bloemfontein, following a cash-in-transit heist at a mall in Heidedal on Monday.
He says security guards from Fidelity Cash Solutions were attacked by three suspects while collecting cash from a supermarket. According to Singo, one of the security guards was hit over the head with an unknown object and the suspects then took the bag containing an undisclosed amount of money, as well as the firearms of both security guards. They fled the scene in a sedan car.
Singo says investigations were initiated, culminating in the arrest of the two suspects. He says that both suspects are expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court soon.
