The statement follows the significant achievement, which placed the province in the second spot in the country while steaming ahead of provinces with more resources. Tsiu applauded the health workers for the good work that they did despite challenges that they face on daily basis to ensure that they deal with the pandemic.

“The vaccination programme in the province is encouraged by the positive response to vaccinations by the 18 – 34-year-old age category, although we still expect much more from these carriers of positive aspirations of the nation. Vaccinations are imperative in our province as it would lessen imminent vulnerabilities that are prevalent in higher age groups of 50 – 59-year-olds and the age group 60 years and older due to Covid-19 related infections, hospitalisations and possible deaths,” she adds.

Tsiu urged people to still adhere to Covid-19 non-pharmaceutical interventions as they gather and interact more due to the build-up of social and political activities ahead of local government elections.
