FS IEC experienced challenges on first day of special votes─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 13:22 Sun, 31 Oct 2021
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Free State opened voting stations for special votes on Saturday, with 1 434 stations allocated.
The IEC's spokesperson in the Free State, Mathabo Rasengani, tells OFM News that three stations had issues on Saturday. She says in the Masilonyana Municipality, the landlord of the Langverwagte voting station in ward 3, from whom the space for the voting station is rent, did not unlock the doors and his phone was off.
She says in Heilbron at the Ngwathe Municipality, that ward 3 station was also closed as there were no keys, whilst in the Metsimaholo Municipality's ward 8, 10, 12 and 18 tents were blown away and were re-pitched due to bad weather. Rasengani further adds that Dihlabeng and Nketoane had challenges of special votes envelopes which were sent late to the voting stations. She also said that police were visible at all municipalities as 85 041 special voters are expected to cast their votes with 32 683 home visits and 52 958 voting station visits.
OFM News previously reported that Rasengani declared the IEC's state of readiness as voter polls opened on Saturday morning for special voters. She further encouraged voters to turn up in their numbers and exercise their political rights.
