#AsbestosGate: Niehaus predicts more delays in Ace's court case─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 10:26 Wed, 03 Nov 2021
The former ANC military spokesperson of the Umkhonto We Sizwe Veterans, Carl Niehaus, has predicted further delays in the case of the suspended Secretary-General Ace Magashule.
He says that charges and courts are being used for political factions' battles.
Niehaus, who is a staunch supporter and ally of Ace Magashule, is already in Bloemfontein to support the suspended Secretary-General (SG). He says his impression is that the court proceedings will again be postponed. Niehaus says it seems as if the charges against Magashule have served their purpose of making sure that he is suspended from his party's SG position.
"The intention of these trumped-up charges of so-called 'looking at oversight', was all about making sure that comrade Ace Magashule is eventually removed from the position as the Secretary-General by suspending him. Now that they have achieved that, they have no interest to give priority and to move this court case ahead," he adds.
Magashule, former Mangaung Mayor Olly Mlamleli, and businessman Edwin Sodi, among others, face more than 70 charges of fraud, theft, and corruption in the failed R255 million asbestos project.
