NC passes 90% mark of vote capturing | News Article

The Northern Cape is the first province in the country to complete over 90% of its vote capturing.

The province now sits at 93% with 23 out of the 26 councils under the control of the ANC. This means that only three councils' votes are yet to be calculated. The ANC has retained the hotly contested Kimberley-based Sol Plaatje Local Municipality which had previously faced sporadic violent protests over a lack of service delivery. The party won the municipality with 50% of the votes, followed by the DA with 20%, and the EFF in third place with 9%. The party has managed to secure 206 seats while the DA has managed to get 82 and the EFF won 31 seats.

OFM News previously reported that the province looks set to become the first province in the country to complete their 2021 Local Government Election vote-capturing. OFM News reported that the ANC won all of the three other municipalities that have completed the counting of votes in the hotly contested Frances Baard District Municipality, which includes Sol Plaatje.

The ANC Provincial Executive Committee in the Northern Cape denied an earlier projection done by the market-research company Ipsos and analysts, that its support base would drop down to at least 30% to 40% during the 2021 municipal elections. The Provincial Secretary, Deshi Ngxanga, said the analysis done by many analysts on the decline of the party in many municipalities lacks fundamental scientific reflection.
