Rape and murder accused, Mosimanegape “Maleven” Moleta, has been handed down a hefty sentence by the High Court in North West.
The 37-year-old Moleta has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and an additional three life sentences on three counts of rape.
North West National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, tells OFM News that Moleta was arrested following a tip-off in 2017. He says that two unlicensed firearms were discovered and taken to a forensic laboratory. Mamothame says that the results linked the accused to murder and three rapes that resulted in his conviction.
“The NPA in the North West welcomes the four lifeterms handed down to Mosimanegape Moleta. The NPA is quite pleased with the conviction, as it will display the seriousness with which the criminal justice system deals with gender-based violence (GBV), as well as the abuse of women, children and the elderly,” he adds.
