NW police under investigation following shooting─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:13 Sun, 07 Nov 2021
A Zastron police officer is being probed by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) after he allegedly shot a 22-year-old in the Free State.
This follows after IPID spokesperson, Grace Langa, told OFM News that a police officer had allegedly shot a man, who reportedly tried to stab the officer.
Langa says this took place on Saturday after a case of malicious damage to property was registered against the 22-year-old Kamohelo Mdabuli from Refengkhotso in Zastron.
She says that he resisted arrest, and allegedly took out a knife from his pocket as he was wrestling with police and wanted to stab one of the officers.
According to Langa, the suspect is said to have persisted in his attack on the police officer, and this led one of the fellow officers firing a warning shot.
She further reports police called an ambulance to the scene and Mdabula was taken to the Embokweni Hospital.
