SIU continues its probe into private FS hospital─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:18 Thu, 18 Nov 2021

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has confirmed that it is investigating a Free State private hospital that unduly claimed over R400 000 from the Covid-19 Temporary Employee/Employer Relief Scheme (TERS).
SIU spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago, tells OFM News that the private hospital in the Free State unlawfully claimed more than "R465 000" from the UIF. The SIU previously mentioned that when approached by the SIU, the hospital paid back the money to the UIF without the knowledge of the unit. Kganyago, however, says the SIU is not yet able to reveal the name of the hospital as the investigation is ongoing and the matter will be reported to President Cyril Ramaphosa, on the conclusion of the investigation as required by the SIU Act.
"The SIU calculated the interest on the amount received and demanded it to be paid back. The investigation relates to the Covid-19 Temporary Employee/Employer Relief Scheme (TERS), conducted in terms of proclamation R8 of 2021," he adds.
Meanwhile, OFM News previously reported that the investigation into Buthelezi Emergency Medical Services’ (EMS) controversial contract with the North West Health Department by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), will be concluded come end of November 2021.
OFM News' Olebogeng Motse reported that Justice and Correctional Services Minister, Ronald Lamola, said on the Parliament Monitoring Group’s website that, presently, the SIU has approached the Special Tribunal to recover the over R30 million lost to the ground and air ambulance contract from former North West Health Department head, Thabo Lekalakala.
