The bail application of the suspect who was arrested for the murder of a 69-year-old woman from Bloemfontein was postponed to Friday 3 December.

This is according to the NPA spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping.

Free State police spokesperson in the Free State province, Thabo Covane, says the suspect, 39-year-old Moqekela Mokhoele, was arrested for the alleged murder of Maria Cameron in Bayswater, Bloemfontein.

Mokhoele was the newly appointed gardener of Cameron and her husband. OFM News previously reported the husband of Cameron says he left their home to go to a local business. Upon his arrival back home, he found his wife lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit and her hands tied behind her back.

Covane says the husband reported that he allegedly left his wife alone with their newly appointed gardener. After discovering his murdered wife in their house, he ran around looking for the gardener but he was nowhere to be found. The incident took place in broad daylight on Tuesday 23 November 2021. Mokhoele was arrested on 24 November 2021 at a house in Section R, in Botshabelo.

The team surrounded the shack dwelling at the informal settlement, cordoned it off, and pounced on the suspect. Expensive alcohol brands that have reportedly been stolen during the house robbery and blood-stained clothing were allegedly seized at the scene.
