Metsimaholo to elect mayor soon─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:29 Tue, 30 Nov 2021
The Sasolburg-based Metsimaholo Municipality, which recently lost its EFF mayor, will soon sit and elect a new mayor.
The EFF mayor, Selloane Motjoane, resigned after the party's high-bearers told her to resign. This was after the party learned that Motjoane secured her position with help from some ANC members who voted in her favour. The municipality would not be going for a re-run since it has managed to elect council members. EFF President, Julius Malema, previously announced that the party had advised Motjoane to resign with immediate effect.
According to The Citizen, at least 24 seats were required for the EFF to take control of the Metsimaholo Municipal Council as the ANC won 16 of the 46 council seats. Malema said during a media briefing at the Winnie Mandela House in Johannesburg, his party is rejecting the “help” from the ruling party and will not work with the ANC.
