The Energy Department made a mistake when it announced the new fuel price hikes.
Petrol has increased by 75 cents per litre, and not 81 cents as announced. The department says it overstated the prices by 6 cents.
It's instructed stakeholders to effect the changes with immediate effect.
On Tuesday, petrol stations were packed with motorists trying to get in their last fill ahead of the hike.
The new price kicked in on Wednesday morning.
